Our Story

Born & Raised
in the Desert

Hassan was born near Merzouga, on the edge of the Erg Chebbi dunes. He grew up reading the desert the way others read maps — by wind direction, dune color, and the shifting light at golden hour. When he led his first group into the Sahara in 2010, word spread fast: this was someone who could show you a Morocco that guidebooks simply don’t reach.

In 2014, he founded Morocco Desert Tour alongside drivers, guides, and desert specialists who were all born and raised in the landscapes they share with guests. Every team member brings firsthand knowledge no outside guide can replicate: the best spots to watch sunrise over Erg Chebbi, the quieter trails through Dades Gorge, the families in Khamlia who welcome visitors into their home for tea and Gnawa music.

Which Tour Should You Choose?

Not sure which desert tour
is right for you?

The right Morocco desert tour depends on how much time you have. Here is a plain guide to what each itinerary length actually gives you — and who it suits best.

3
Days
Best if short on time.

You reach the Sahara, spend one night at Erg Chebbi, and see the main landscapes — High Atlas, Ait Ben Haddou, Todra Gorge. Intense but worth it if 3 days is all you have.

4
Days
More relaxed pace.

The same key stops with fewer early starts and longer time at each place. Better for couples or anyone who wants to absorb the route rather than tick it off.

★ Recommended
5
Days
The real Sahara experience.

Two nights at Erg Chebbi with a full free day in the desert. The sweet spot — enough time to feel the Sahara rather than just pass through it. The most common choice for first-time visitors.

7–10
Days
Full Morocco in one trip.

Sahara plus the imperial cities, Chefchaouen, the Atlantic coast, and the gorges. The right choice if this is your one big Morocco trip and you want to come away having seen the whole country.

When to Go

Best Time for a
Morocco Desert Tour

Erg Chebbi and the Sahara are rewarding year-round, but some months deliver a significantly better experience than others.

Autumn
September — October

The ideal window. Comfortable daytime temperatures, cool clear nights. The Sahara light in September and October is exceptional and the camps are peaceful.

⚠ High season — book early
Spring
March — April

Wildflowers in the Dades Valley, warm but not extreme days, and dramatic Sahara sunrises before the summer heat builds. One of the two peak windows of the year.

⚠ High season — book early
Winter
December — February

Cold desert nights, occasional snow on the High Atlas, and very few other travellers. Pack warm layers. Sunrise from the dunes in January is extraordinary.

✓ Good with layers
Summer
June — August

Erg Chebbi regularly exceeds 45°C. Possible but demanding. Plan around early starts and late afternoons. Prices are lower and the camps are quieter.

↑ Possible, hot

What makes our tours
worth booking?

Not all Morocco desert tours are the same. Here is what separates a genuinely memorable Morocco tour from a package that simply moves you from one place to another.

Hassan grew up in the desert communities most operators drive past. You cannot fake 15 years of local knowledge — and it changes every stop on the trip.
Hassan drives every Morocco desert tour route himself before it goes on the site. If a road, camp, or stop does not deliver, it does not appear.
A guided sunset camel trek into the dunes is included on every itinerary with a Sahara overnight — not an optional add-on.
Your departure city, your dates, your pace. No fixed group departures, no minimum numbers, no stops you cannot change.
A real person reads every message. Ask about Morocco itinerary options, Sahara tour prices, or what to pack — we reply fast.

Essential Info for Your
Morocco Desert Trip

Best Time for a Morocco Desert Tour

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are the most comfortable seasons to visit the Sahara. Summer pushes past 45°C in the Sahara. Winter nights get cold, but skies are clear and the dunes are quiet — good if you want the place to yourself.

What to Pack

Lightweight layers for daytime, a warm jacket for desert evenings, a headscarf or hat, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, sunglasses, a headlamp, and a power bank. Modest clothing is respectful in medinas and rural villages along the route.

Currency and Payments

Morocco uses the Dirham (MAD). ATMs are available in all cities. We recommend withdrawing Dirhams on arrival. Card payments work in most hotels, but cash is useful in souks and smaller stops along the way.

Visa Requirements

Citizens of the USA, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. A valid passport is all you need. Other nationalities should check with their embassy — requirements can change, so verify before you travel.

Majorelle Garden — Book in Advance

If your itinerary includes time in Marrakech, book Majorelle Garden and the YSL Museum tickets online before you arrive. Entry is timed and sells out in peak season — don’t leave it until you get there.

Health and Safety

Morocco is a safe destination for travelers. Avoid tap water — drink bottled. No vaccinations are required, but travel insurance is strongly recommended. Our vehicles are modern and all guides are licensed and experienced.

General Morocco Questions
Citizens of the USA, UK, EU, Canada, and Australia do not need a visa for stays up to 90 days. A valid passport is sufficient. Other nationalities may require a visa — check with your country’s embassy before booking. Requirements can change, so always verify before departure.
Morocco uses the Moroccan Dirham (MAD). Euros and US dollars are accepted in tourist areas but you’ll get better rates paying in Dirhams. ATMs are available in all major cities. We recommend withdrawing cash on arrival for souks and smaller purchases along the route.
Arabic (Darija dialect) and Tamazight (Berber) are the main languages. French is widely used in cities and for business. Spanish is common near Tangier. English is spoken by most guides and across the tourism sector. Hassan’s team works in English, French, and Arabic.
Seven days gives you enough time to see Marrakech and the Sahara without feeling rushed. Ten to fourteen is better if you want to add Fes, Chefchaouen, and the Atlantic coast. With only 3 to 5 days, a focused Marrakech to Merzouga route is the most rewarding option.
Morocco is one of the safer countries in North Africa for tourists, welcoming millions of visitors each year. Normal precautions apply — keep valuables secure, be aware in crowded medinas, use licensed guides. Hassan’s team are all licensed and experienced, and every route is well-established.
Moroccan food is rich, fragrant, and varied. Tagine, couscous, harira soup, and fresh bread are staples. Dinners at desert camps and riads — included in all packages — typically feature traditional dishes. Vegetarian options are available on request. Avoid tap water and stick to bottled throughout your trip.
Morocco is a Muslim country and modest dress is respectful, particularly in medinas, mosques, and rural areas. Covered shoulders and knees are recommended in cities and religious sites for both men and women. In the desert, lightweight breathable clothing is practical, and a headscarf is useful for sun and sand.
